Database Information

Guide to database fields:

  • Census: Year of census having entry.
  • Location: Location of Microfilm. Example: 1a1, page 1, side a, line 1 of original 1900 manuscript census. 1910 manuscript census: Example: 1a1, page 1, side a, line 1 of original manuscript census for Missoula County; f1a1, page 1, side a, line 1 for Flathead County; and s1a1, page 1, side a, line 1, for Sanders County.
  • Last Name: family name or Christian name if no family name.
  • First Name: Christian name if family name given.
  • Sex: Female or male.
  • Age: Age at last birthday. A 0 indicates the individual was under 1 year old.
  • Married: Whether single, married, widowed, or divorced.
  • Family Position: Relationship of person to the head of the family.
  • Children Born: Mother of how many children.
  • Children Living: Number of children living at time of census.
  • Occupation: Occupation, trade, or profession of person ten years of age and over.
  • Can Read: Can read, yes or no.
  • Can Write: Can write, yes or no.
  • English: Can speak English, yes or no. Some records also record that they speak another language.
  • Other Name: Indian name. (1900 census only.)
  • Tribe: Tribe of this person.
  • Mothers Tribe: Tribe of mother of this person.
  • Fathers Tribe: Tribe of father of this person.
  • Non-Indian Blood: Non-Indian blood for this person.
  • Type of Dwelling: Is this person living in a fixed or in a movable dwelling?
  • Attended School: Did this person attending school
  • Assigned Tribe: Assigned tribe. Tribe of father unless father is of a non-Flathead Reservation tribe, then tribe of mother.
  • Assigned Family Name: Family name or Christian name if no family name. From Eugene Felsman’s family research.
  • Assigned First Name: Christian name if family name given. From Eugene Felsman’s family research.
  • Birthdate: Birthdate from Eugene Felsman’s family research.
  • Death Date: Death date from Eugene Felsman’s family research.
